When did you start at CrossFit Cameron Park and how did you hear about it?

I started CrossFit February 27, 2018. A friend asked me if I was interested finding a gym to join with her.

What class do you attend and how many days a week?

I attend the 8:30 class 4 days a week

Do you have a favorite lift? and least favorite lift?

My Favorite lift is the dead lift. My least Favorite lift is the overhead squat.

What is your athletic and fitness background?

At the age of 29, I was asked if I wanted to join a women’s outdoor soccer team. I was overweight and out of shape from the birth of my twins 5 years earlier. I was ready to quit after one game, but stayed and continued to improve. I loved it so much that I joined other leagues as the years went by. Before I knew it, I was playing 4 times a week which included 1 outdoor women’s team, 2 outdoor co-ed team’s and 1 indoor women’s team. During that time also I took up road biking. I road many miles all through El Dorado Hills where we were living. Every year for 5 years I participated in the Multiple Sclerosis 150 Mile bike ride which started in San Jose up through the mountains and down to Santa Cruz. It was and still is one of the most changing things I have every done. My gym peeps might be surprised to learn I was a bike rider because all the hear is me complaining about getting on the bike. I also played softball for many years during the same time. I retired from soccer after playing for 25 years.

How do you enjoy your fitness outside of the gym, and what are some of your hobbies?

I love to garden. Before we moved to Cameron Park 3 years ago, my husband and I owned a home vineyard and lavender farm on five acres. We downsized and now only have 1 ¼ acres. Being fit has helped me continue to garden at our new home. Also, as I tell everyone at the gym, I need to stay fit so I can climb on my counters at home and scale the shelves at the Grocery Store (I’m 4’9” tall). Traveling, camping and spending time with my 4 grandson’s are also thing’s I love to do.

Favorite thing about CFCP or memory at CFCP?

My favorite thing are the people! I truly enjoy working out with each and every person I have met.

Any goals for 2021?

Two goals for me, eat better and lose a few pounds.

Any advice for someone who is thinking about doing CrossFit or someone who is just starting?

My advice is that just because we are older, it doesn’t mean we can’t do it. Crossfit isn’t just for the young, it can be for the old. I know that my own sons thought I was crazy and thought I should join some old lady gym. Not for me, I’m too competitive and needed to be challenged. Our Crossfit gym works with you no matter what your age and skill is. I can’t do everything and can scale according to what I am comfortable doing. I would tell anyone older to give it a try. It’s important as we age to stay healthy and fit.
